"How Can Dads Show Up Better For Our Neurodivergent Kids?"

“I prefer Mummy to you, Daddy. She doesn’t shout at me”.

Sometimes, the autistic trait of speaking the truth - regardless of your feelings - can be exactly what you need. This off-hand comment from Mark’s son, Jay sparked a journey into understanding how to become the parent his neurodivergent child actually needed, rather than the one he assumed he should be.

Mark, lapsed comedian, host of the Neuroshambles podcast, and
frazzled parent of three neurodivergent children, reflects on what he’s learned throughout his own evolution from angry, shouty Dad to compassionate, collaborative caregiver.

In this session, Mark will identify the characteristics of traditionally masculine roles in parenting and how it is uniquely ill-suited to raising neurodivergent kids. He will look at how a simple shift in understanding of our children’s behaviour can have a hugely beneficial impact on our relationship with them, help build bridges and boost your own self-esteem as a Dad.

Audiences leave with:

      • A clear understanding of why so many dads struggle to recognise and accommodate neurodivergence in the early years
      • An honest look at how authoritarian parenting styles are uniquely ill-suited to neurodivergent children - and what to do instead
      • Practical strategies for rebuilding a fractured relationship with a child and becoming a genuinely safe person for them
      • A framework for taking on a fairer share of the parenting load in a way that works for the whole family
