"Rewriting the rulebook for our neurodivergent kids"
If you're parenting a neurodivergent child, there's a good chance you've tried all of the strategies recommended to you in books, online and occasionally from a stranger in a supermarket car park. Reward charts, naughty corner, screaming into a pillow - none of it seems to work. But it's not because you aren't trying hard enough. It's because you've been looking at the wrong user manual.
In this session, Mark talks about his own journey as a parent of three children with contrasting needs (Autism/ADHD/Anxiety/PDA) and shares how he came to embrace the joy of ripping up the rulebook that society expected him to follow in favour of writing one that suited the unique needs of his own family.
This is a funny, honest and relatable session that offers a positive and neuro-affirming perspective on how to tackle the many challenges we face as parents of neurodifferent kids. It won't give you a universal fix because - spoiler alert - there isn't one. But it will give you the confidence that you already know more about parenting your child than any manual ever written.
Audiences leave with:
- A new perspective on why their neurodivergent children struggle with demands and expectations and what to do instead.
- How to apply this outlook to multiple children with differing needs.
- Practical tools for determining which rules are genuinely necessary and how to let go of the ones that aren't.
- A way of thinking about their child's behaviour that reduces conflict and builds connection.
- The reassurance that the chaos in their house is not a failure of parenting - it's a sign they're parenting a different model of child.
